Dr. Gordon Fimreite wants people to know his job is much more than working the kinks out. "Chiropractic care isn't just about the spine," said Fimreite, who moved his Chicago practice to La Grange earlier this year in search of a small-town atmosphere. He can help relieve that stiff neck, but he also can do much more by putting a misaligned spine back where it belongs. |

The spinal column, Fimreite explained, houses nerves that
send messages to every part of the body. A misalignment, or
subluxation, in the center of the back might compromise kidney
function or cause breathing problems. A problem in the lower
back might compromise messages from the brain to the bladder
or reproductive organs. By keeping the neck and back healthy,
chiropractic can positively affect the entire body.
Slow Acceptance Fimreite, who earned his chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Iowa, has practiced for 12 years. He said acceptance of chiropractic for those suffering from asthma to depression is slowly gaining ground. "That's the sad part," he said, because Fimreite contends that so many conditions could be helped, even prevented, with proper spinal care. Fimreite said he's helped patients restore their sense of smell, breathe more easily, get better sleep and increased immune system that resulted in fewer colds. "There are studies that show how chiropractic directly affects the immune system," he said. |

Newborns to adults
Fimreite Chiropractic cares for people of all ages. He said newborns can suffer damage to the neck and spine during the birthing process. Children develop problems from poor posture due to too many hours of video games and from carrying heavy backpacks. Everyone, Fimreite said, should be screened for subluxation -- misalignments in the spine that, if corrected, can relieve a variety of problems because of its influence on the nervous system. He offers a variety of community event from dinner presentations. For more information visit www.DrFimreite.com. New patients can learn more about chiropractic care during free informational clinics held at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday and 10:15am on Thursday. Those who attend are introduced to the methods and philosophies of chiropractic care and have the chance to ask questions. To attend, call Fimreite at (708) 352-3352. At least once a month, Fimreite holds workshops that address exercise, nutrition and sleep, among other topics. He's available to talk to local groups and already has spoken to Aging Well and ACT II at La Grange Memorial Hospital about wellness through chiropractic care. Fimreite belongs to the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce, the Burr Ridge/Willowbrook Chamber of Commerce and the Western Springs Business Association, where he is chairman of the health and wellness committee. Fimreite said he's somewhat unique in his quest for overall health through chiropractic care, but he's OK with being different, and with the results. "If you do what everybody else does, you get the same results as everybody else," he said
