1.) Omega-3 EFA (Essential Fatty Acid) The human body does NOT generate Omega 3 it uses, therefore it MUST be obtained through dietary intake or supplementation. Omega 3 EFA are dangerously low in the typical American diet. These are Essential Fatty Acids found in fish, seafood, flaxseed oil and walnut oil. These are the good fats. Omega 3 is found in the basic unit – the cell. The cells absorb various raw materials and act as a gateway allowing raw material we eat to be processed and then sends the processed material to the required destination with the body. Omega-3 is essential for maintaining good HEALTH, normal growth & development and reducing inflammation and inflammatory conditions. These fats can help you live longer with more energy and adds quality to your years. Omega-3 EFA is ultimately responsible to regulate most bodily functions…cardiovascular, digestive, immune system, brain development, inflammatory conditions, etc. If the diet is inadequate either lacking or unbalanced can lead to dis-ease in the vital body systems. Danish researchers have shown the Eskimos of Greenland ate very large amounts of fatty fish and almost never developed heart disease.
Studies have shown a reduction in inflammation as seen in conditions associated with chronic pain/stiffness.
The primary sources of omega-6 are corn, soy, canola, safflower and sunflower oil; these oils are overabundant in the typical diet. Avoid or limit these oils, Omega-3, however, are in dangerously low levels in the typical diet and should be supplemented from an outside source. The abundance of mercury in our oceans, lakes and rivers is alarming. Virtually all fish are contaminated with mercury, which is toxic to human consumption and should be avoided.. I strongly recommend supplementation with Omega-3 EFA or DHA. 2.) Enzymes These are minute protein molecules that are found naturally in foods we eat. Enzymes help to digest the foods we eat and break it down to useable, absorbable nutrients. Our cells are dependent on nutrients to function and survive. The problem is that most foods we eat are enzyme-deficient. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 118º F. or above. That means that almost any kind of food preparation destroys enzymes, ie. cook, microwave, fry, bake, grill, or processing your food. So what happens when you are deficient or void of digestive enzymes? Your body must draw from its supply of metabolic enzymes. Metabolic enzymes are used when digestion enzymes are missing from our diet. The enzymes for metabolic processes are primary used to run other processes of the body. It’s not healthy to be using metabolic enzymes to accomplish digestion when they are supposed to be used to regulate the heart, lungs, or kidneys instead. This can lead to your body being over-worked leading to frequent sickness, premature aging and increased storage of body fat and a multitude of other problems. When your body is deficient in digestive enzymes, your body may react with “indigestion,” This may include burping, heartburn, abdominal pain and bad breath, excess gas, skin problems, diarrhea and constipation. In addition your body may react with headaches, mental fatigue, nervousness, lack of concentration, memory loss, insomnia all as a result from not having enzymes. The goal with enzymes is to help break foods down enough so it’s absorbable and the vitamins and minerals are available to supply our body to function normally and give us optimal health. I recommend supplementing with plant derived enzymes that contain the full complex of enzymes that are needed for complete digestion.3.) Multi-Vitamin How important is a multiple vitamin? It should never be based on how you feel. It’s suggested that most people who die of old age, really die of malnutrition. An organ or system over the long haul doesn’t get the proper nutrients and fails. If someone dies of an artic aneurysm, for example, it’s suggested they really died of a malnutrition on a microscopic (histological level) due to a lack of copper over the years. Copper is what gives the vessel its tensile strength. Each person has their own biochemistry and each person has different nutritional requirements for each cell, organ, & system in the body. Take your multiples! Don’t go cheap, because some cheap multiples won’t properly break-down. 4.) AntiOxidant This is the vitamin that has been getting all the media attention in recent years for it’s anti-aging activity…And for good reason. What are antioxidants? We use oxygen to oxidize (burn) food for energy. This “burning” process, called oxygenation, results in free radicals. These free radicals are of minimal concern if kept at reasonable levels. However, excessive sun exposure, cigarette smoke, alcohol, saturated fats, pollution and chemicals found in the air and water, fried foods, excessive exercise, and even our own metabolic by-products can all create free radicals. Free radicals are unstable oxygen atoms that are very reactive and cause a lot of damage to neighboring cells and tissues. It can result in overexposure, which leads to “oxidative stress,” a condition in which damages cells and tissues and prematurely ages us. On average, every cell in your body comes under attack from a free radical once every ten seconds. Excess free radicals are related to many problems and conditions such as aging, atherosclerosis, arthritis, cataracts, cancer, and over 60 other identified conditions. The purpose of Antioxidants is to capture and neutralize free radicals and escorts them out of the body before they can cause any additional damage. This is a must for everyone. I especially encourage antioxidants for those who work-out or spend a lot of time in the sun. Antioxidants include Vitamins A, C, E, Beta-carotene, Selenium, Zinc, Magnesium, Manganese, and Copper. Antioxidants now come as a Multi-Antioxidant, which means one tablet will include all of the antioxidant vitamins listed above. 6.) Probiotics These are the friendly bacteria that line our intestinal tract. Your may have heard of acidophilus (found to a lesser degree in yogurt), which is one strain of good bacteria found in our body. Probiotics are also known as norma flora, which are living organisms that colonize and flourish in the healthy intestine. They serve as a backup to our body’s immune system. They help to detoxify and suppress pathogens and promote proper digestion. Common dietary and lifestyle factors destroy these bacteria such as stress, carbonated drinks, lack of sleep, laxatives and birth control pills, antibacterial herbs and cortisone. When the body is depleted of bowel flora or good bacteria, the body is subjected to numerous diseases including colitis, diabetes, meningitis, rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid disease and even bowel cancer. Even flues and colds are more frequent and debilitating. Antibiotics are frequently used by many physicians to fight disease. The problem is that not only do they kill the bad bacteria, they also wipe out the good strain of bacteria. So while you may get rid of your cold or ear infection, you may be letting a yeast infection or uncheck or contributing to other potential problems.Supplement with probiotics. 6.) Vegetable / Fruit Mix There’s a good chance that most americans don’t get the vitamins and minerals in the vegetables and fruit we eat. The reason why is that what’s added to produce is: pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and perhaps in depleted soil. Here’s a list of the advantages:
- Increase energy, naturally, without stimulants
- Reduce appetite, improve metabolism, assisting weight loss efforts
- Restore regular elimination and assist digestion
- Reduce inflammation, relieve stiff and achy joints and muscles
- Lower risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke
- Inhibit hardening of the arteries
- Protect you vision from age related vision loss and blindness (ARMD)
- Maintain strong bones
- Support immune function and increase resistance to infections
- Reduce allergy symptoms without drowsiness
- Improve mental acuity and protect mind and memory
- Detoxify toxic metals and chemicals
Help slow aging of the skin and dulling of the hair 7.) Immune System Builders If you’re feeling illness or coming down with the flu, please follow this link. Strengthen Your Immune System 8.) Glycosamine & Chondroitin Sulfate Beneficial for joint problems and arthritis sufferers. more info Inflammation is the cause of disease and creates conditions like asthma, allergies, pain, etc. Gastric Reflux, Indigestion, etc. are signs of inflammation affecting the intestinal tract.
